Music is used in my short film to emphasise and to provide emotion when used as a backdrop to certain scenes.
This song, 'Alt J- Hunger of the Pine' is used over shots 90-96 as it is a melancholic, sad, haunting sounding song which provides a perfect backdrop to the sad scenes of the death of the protagonist and his sister. It blends well with the scene as it reflects the sad emotions being conveyed and means the audience's appreciation of events will be aided and clarified as well as allowing them to relate to the music, as it may make them remember their own personal experiences that are similar to the film.
From shots 19-21, a car stereo is heard playing music which adds to the verisimilitude of these shots as diagetic music like this is heard often in real life.
In addition to this, dramatic music is heard non-diagetically over certain dramatic shots including 28-39 which adds to the dramatic tension in the scene as well as reflecting the crime-thriller genre which means the audience are expecting to see dramatic, tense scenes throughout.
